Thunderbolts Release Date, Cast, Plot & Latest News

MCU Thunderbolts

MCU Thunderbolts: Thunderbolts is one of the most hotly-anticipated Marvel movies on the upcoming MCU slate, and it already boasts an incredible cast.

The movie will be the penultimate instalment of MCU’s Phase 5, followed by The Blade starring Mahershala Ali, and will follow a team of anti-heroes who have been gathered together for a specific mission, utilising their very specific skillset.

However, we’re going to have to wait a little longer than expected for the highly-anticipated film, as production has been delayed for the Writers Guild of America strikes and the release date pushed back.

Thunderbolts Release Date

Marvel’s Thunderbolts is currently scheduled to premiere on December 20, 2024. The film was set to arrive on July 26, 2024. However, the release was put on hold due to the writer’s strike. The film was slated to begin principal photography in June. Thunderbolts is now scheduled to be one of the three MCU movies released in 2024 alongside Captain America: Brave New World and Deadpool 3.

Thunderbolts Cast

the cast of characters will include Black Widow’s Florence Pugh, David Harbour, and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), The Falcon and the Winter Soldier’s Sebastian Stan and Wyatt Russell, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, who appeared in both, and finally Ant-Man and the Wasp’s (2018) Hannah John-Kamen. Kevin Feige has revealed that Bucky will be the de-facto leader of the team, but that’s all we know at the moment about their dynamics. Also appearing in the film will be the one and only Harrison Ford who is taking over the role of Thunderbolt Ross from the late William Hurt, who passed away in 2021 after playing the character in five different MCU films beginning with The Incredible Hulk. This will mark Ford’s second film in the MCU, as earlier in 2024, he’ll be playing the role in Captain America: New World Order.

Thunderbolts Plot

The official synopsis for Marvel’s Thunderbolts is described as “A group of antiheroes goes on missions for the government.”

In Marvel Comics, Thunderbolts were originally a team of supervillains disguised as heroes while the Avengers weren’t around but in reality were the Masters of Evil, led by Baron Helmut Zemo.

However, this time around it appears this team has been organised by CIA director Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, who has already recruited Yelena Belova and John Walker to work for her.

Considering that Thaddeus Ross is a politician, he is probably in league with Val, which is made more likely by their more extreme approach to issues in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
